When The Tigers Broke Free

Pink Floyd

http://www.geocities.com/devils_mean/dead.JPG

It was just before dawn
One miserable morning in black 'forty four.
When the forward commander
Was told to sit tight
When he asked that his men be withdrawn.
And the Generals gave thanks
As the other ranks held back
The enemy tanks for a while.
And the Anzio bridgehead
Was held for the price
Of a few hundred ordinary lives.

And kind old King George
Sent Mother a note
When he heard that father was gone.
It was, I recall,
In the form of a scroll,
With gold leaf and all.
And I found it one day
In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away.
And my eyes still grow damp to remember
His Majesty signed
With his own rubber stamp.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.

You have stunt me…!!
And you know it, I just love this song  It's song is one of the most richest saddest and finest song in the Wall Album of Pink Floyd.
Now I still can name two or three that stand along with it, but still this one with it's War Theme is speechless and a big applaud to former member Roger Waters who wrote it about his father whom he lost when he was few months old on the WWII at Anzio in Italy, and maybe the frustration Waters have is not only toward the whole war itself, but to the fact that the death of his father was as a result of simply a BAD decision from the high commander (forgotten his name ) who decided to stay put at Anzio securing the Bridge of Anzio instead of heading toward Rome which the road to it was almost opened! or at least securing the surrounding hills which The Germans whom known to be QUICK put more troops and bombed the Allies (British and American troops), they-The Allies- defended the area and lost many lives until the help came out, it was considered a succeed mission with a lot of mistakes!!

Wonderful Choice, and no matter how they say it's scary it's still you ringtone :)

You know, it took me long time b4 I listen to it, but once I heard it my memory flashed and works out, one friend told me about it, but i couldn't stand that he didn't hear "High Hopes" so - just like me - I ignore him completely. guess I have to consider anything pops up to me, even if it's meant a gibberish songs!!! :152:
I wonder, what would my friend said if I told him about it? !:266:

Roger Waters... I knew I heard his voice b4, his definitely the one who sing "Lost Boys Calling" for the gr8 movie composer Ennio Morricone for the beautiful movie "The Legend of 1900"...

Gr8 sad song, I'm really enjoying it, and of course gr8 LEGEND band :298:

did this song made big issues in that time?!

Thx again :)
