Dear Friends,

The last few days have been so tensed and full of ugly
and horrifying pictures from Jenin Refugee camp and
Nablus area. The massacres of people did not stop
yet. I have been trying to call Azza, the beautiful
and talented girl who participated in our summer camp
for talented children in Egypt. All through the week
I have been trying to get through to Jenin to find out
any news about Azza. I started imagining pictures of
Azza, horrifying pictures that I was seeing on daily
basis on TV in Jenin area. Children, men and women
slaughtered in the streets and in their homes. I
prayed that she and her family are safe. I believed
that there was no one I could get to can help Azza
except God. Our dear friends who were parts of our
summer camp in Egypt, Tarek and Amany were also
calling me everyday to find out news about Azza. They
were also going through hell not knowing if she was
alive or not. Today and after almost a week of trial
to get through to Azza, I heard her beautiful voice.
Azza was OK and her family were safe too. She told me
about seeing the people of Jenin camp carrying white
flags and coming out of the camp with their babies and
children. She said she could not sleep for many
nights because of sound of continuous bombing on Jenin
area and the sound of F 16 firing missiles everywhere,
without caring about any human being or animal around.

Azza is 14 years old. She is a talented young
Palestinian who is dreaming to live as normal children
her age in other countries. She has been studying
Violin playing. She has been also acting in different
plays. She is a girl full of talent and hope. How
Azza or Palestinian children like her we have been
working with at the theatre will feel about what they
have seen, is something that you people who live in
normal places should answer. The children we have
been teaching to express themselves through drama and
arts. The children we have been performing for and
telling them they should live their childhood and
forget the violence around them. These children will
need years and years of hard work and treatment to
make them believe that justice will take place and
they will be allowed to live safely without fear.

The situation at the Holy Church of the Nativity is
getting worse and worse everyday. Today another
person inside the Church was shot in the neck by the
Israeli snipers surrounding the church. My aunt Lucy
and her family who live about a hundred meters away
from the Church were struggling to avoid and stop the
loudspeakers that the Israeli army was using to
transmit disturbing noises, even painful noise for
over three hours near the Church. My aunts family,
which consists of two sons with their two months baby,
a one year old, and a seven month preganant wife have
been locked in the lower room for over 12 days,
surrounded with tanks and snipers, could not handle
the noise any more. They also heard that the Israeli
army will use nerve gas tonight against the people
inside the church. The whole family were terrified
for their babies and also for all the neighbors around
the church. We are all praying for their safety and
for those who have been under siege inside the church
without food or drink.

My friend Khaled Abu 'Ajammeyyeh, a camera man who has
been working with Bethlehem TV knocked on my door
today. Seeing him was a great surprise during curfew
hours. Khaled who is about 40 years old from Dheisheh
camp walked in and asked me for a cigarette. I was
shocked to see him, so I said how did you come here.
Khaled told me he has been arrested three days ago and
that they just released him. I was very happy to see
him and tried to offer him to drink or to eat. He
said that for three days he could not eat, because
they covered their eyes and handcuffed his hands. He
said that there were hundreds of Palestinians of all
ages in a prison camp that looked like a concentration
camp. They slept on the dirt. They were treated like
garbage, and humiliated. He said many young men were
terrified and wet their pants. I was happy he was
released, but very angry to hear about the others.
They could not keep him, because he was a journalist.
Khaled said that he wished they took his arm and not
his camera and vest. I tried to assure him that to
have him safe and sound is more important.

Everyday, I see the military trucks passing by my
house with hundreds of Palestinians blind folded with
their hands tied. I feel I want to go out and stop
the tanks and the busses and scream at them to release
all these innocent people. I think I am too coward to
do that. I feel helpless day after day. I can only
pray for all of us.

My feelings are so confused, and I cannot think
clearly anymore. I see all the programs on TV talking
about Palestine and Palestinians. I see TV stations
in the Arab world collecting money for Palestine and
creating songs for Palestine, I feel this is not what
we want. We do not want new songs whenever we are
under attack, and then we get forgotten. We do not
need for Arab people to get rid of their guilt by
donating money to Palestine. We need first action to
stop what is happening and then we can think of how to
rebuild the damage. We need to stop the massacres of
innocent people and then think of stones and roads. I
know that donating money to Palestine is good, but I
do not think that it is the time for it only to absorb
peoples' anger. Please demand to stop the massacres
through your governments and then when we know we are
safe we can talk about rebuilding.

I am sorry for being blunt but we are so tired. We
are exhausted.

I beg all of you to pray to God to end these massacres
against my people and to put an end to all the misery
that we all have been living.

Lots of love to all who show support and concern.

Dear My-Spirit...

U don't need to apologize, thank you very much for what u have posted...

I can only re-write a sentence u wrote that has touched me deeply..

We do not want new songs whenever we are
under attack, and then we get forgotten

that is so true...

the scenes this girl has wrote, the fright she has pictured for us.. they all bring tears to the eyes.. but they also bring the want to stand up and do something... and not just sit still and watch...

what can we do to stop these slayers????

All the best...
